Wine Sunday School
Sunday, March 30th, 2025 2:30pm – 3:30pm
a Point of Light
Not sure how to fully describe the idea behind this class, other than to say…the wines we will experience on this day all have an important statement to make / a certain energy that makes them reverberate across the palate / a series of notes that makes them immediately identifiable / a seeming zhoosh that is compelling and intoxicating.
This class will be a journey, absolutely. But where we are going, we have no damn clue.
Sunday, April 13th, 2025 12 noon – 1:00pm
CHILE…we really have no clue how great this country is
On the 8th day, God created Chile.
That is what it states unequivocally in the bible that sits on the settee in my wine room.
Yes, Chile has all the elements that allow for a region to grow great grapes: proximity to water to moderate temperatures / hills and mountains to create various aspects / astute farmers who allow mother earth to nurture her fruits. Chile has a wine history that stretches back almost 500 years. Chile has the ability to craft a multitude of wines for everyday enjoyment AND create wines that are worthy of world class epithets.
Chile is very much worthy of your undivided attention.
Sunday, April 27th 2:30pm – 3:30pm
the Resurrection...uhmmmm, grapes brought back from the dead?!
Grapes rise, and grapes fall.
Acts of the gods and man’s intervention steer the fate of many a varietal.
While some ascend to damn-near-global proclivity, others shrink into the subsoils, never to bear fruit again. Everything can change with one discovery. A long-ignored corner of a parcel might host the lone survivor of a devastating blight; a vine rising from the ashes of another’s damnation. In “Resurrection,” we will roll the proverbial stone away from the proverbial mouth of the cave to discover grapes climbing back from the brink of extinction. Their disappearance tells our story as stewards and subjects of her Holiness, Vitis vinifera. And their resilience illuminates our path through a future of rising temperatures and transfigured ecosystems.
UPCOMING CLASSES:
Sunday, May 4th 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Beaujolais...it is no longer the Kool-Aid of the wine world
All aboard the Terroir Concorde jet as we fly direct to France for this Sunday School spotlight on Beaujolais
and its favorite grape, gamay. Beaujolais is the adopted home of Gamay thanks to Philip the Bold
expelling the grape from Burgundy in 1395. Currently 98% of all plantings in Beaujolais are Gamay!
With centuries of winemaking history, Beaujolais has only recently found fame internationally
with the Beaujolais Nouveau craze of the 1980’s and the rise of the Beaujolais Crus.
Each Cru, 10 in total, produce gamay in its own unique way, from light and juicy, to full and brooding
and everything in between. Join us as we highlight some of the great Crus of Beaujolais
and raise a glass to Philip the Bold and his unintentional creation of the region.
Sunday, May 18th – the Old, the New...the duality of grapes in the Old & the New Worlds
